Selecting the correct nutrients is essential to having a desired harvest.
One important suggestion we make to people is to research the local water quality by looking up the data on the cities municipal web sites such as this example: El Toro Water District Quality Reports

Sometimes it takes a while to find the right nutrients for the variances water qualities could have. Plants can suffer from missing micro nutrients such as iron or sulfur. Tap water for the most part carries many of the desired micro nutrients a plant needs.
Unfortunately our tap many times will contain chlorine. This issue can be resolved by allowing your water to breath in open air for 24 hours. Most of the chlorine with evaporate and you should have good quality water for growing.
**Important note** Always use purified water for generating clones and seedlings, the young plants are more susceptible to issues such as root rot and rooting problems in general at this stage.
We recommend that you add a good base nutrient to your clone reservoir such as Clonnex or Olivias base. If you have a water quality that is bad you may want to consider using a Tall Boy water filtration system. This device takes away the unwanted chlorine and sediments that could hinder a crop.
The best thing about the Tall Boy is its speed, 1200 gallons per hour! If you decide to use a reverse osmosis system “very slow by the way” we suggest that you add micro nutrients to your water such as CAL/MAG by Botanicare or Spray and Grow for immediate foliate enhancement. It is important to aware that reverse osmosis water has no minerals which are crucial to your plants success.
The second major side of a feeding regiment is using high grade NPK (a.k.a nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium ratio) nutrients.

If you are looking for performance we highly endorse the CANNA line of nutrients. CANNA addresses all of critical needs of a supreme crop. If you want crazy and consistent results we highly recommend using the Netherlands OG nutrient CANNA!
It is the most complete line we have! Simplicity, purity and maximum performance! When you purchase CANNA from West Coast Hydro, we add in a “little secrets pamplet” giving you additional growing information on how the pros use CANNA for un heard of results. It is the original of its kind and is poorly copied by cheaper quality knock offs. It is always being improved and kept simple! There are also a number other high quality nutrients from Botanicare and General Hydroponics.
Advanced Nutrients also offers many good nutrients but has had some quality variances in the past. We have some customers that like AN and use it in the feeding process. There are also two other categories of nutrients, organic and synthetic/chelated. True synthetic hydroponic nutrients are more stimulating to a plants growth but may lack the flavor organic nutrients can offer.
We suggest using a little of both for the maximum results. It is a great idea to feed your plants root system and foliate for enhanced performance. We have many foliate suggestions on our www.wchydroponics.com website that will propel your harvests to new limits!
