Choosing a good quality lighting system is critically important to obtaining a great harvest period! Don’t go cheap on this! One of the most crucial areas of lighting is intensity and even light distribution. The best way to insure this is to select a quality reflector, bulb and ballast. |

We highly encourage our growers to use a well planned out ventilation system that has both adequate intake “fresh air coming in” and exhaust to move the hot stale air out of the growing environment. The most effective way to accomplish this is to use a good quality inline and exhaust fan.
Air flow is essential to a plants life and it is considered a crucial element to grow effectively in an indoor growing environment. It is important to choose a fan that produces enough CFM “cubic feet per minute” to move the hot air out of a air cooled reflector and carbon filter if you decide to use one. Carbon filters are the most efficient way to control odor and mold. We stock the CAN filters, which we feel offers the best carbon filtration for your money.
A good ventilation system is also a great way to keep humidity levels under control as well. A fresh air intake fan that takes air from outside your growing area will ensure that your plant obtain healthy levels of carbon dioxide.
Co2 offers a number of benefits which include greater resistance to heat stress, pests and will overall increase the plants output/yield. One critical step of creating a good ventilation system is to eject the hot air in your reflector and hot air in the grow room out to a separate area like an attic, garage or in the middle a wall/floor boards. If the hot air is being re-circulated back into your grow area there will be very little cooling experienced. Keeping your grow room below 85 degrees is optimal but some plant can takes temperatures in 90 degree range with the help of Co2.
We also suggest using an old fashion Co2 aluminum can, regulator and timer for effective carbon dioxide enrichment. You will have even better results by using a digital Co2 controller such as the Sentinel CHHC. Keep in mind that when the temperatures are high it is also important to increase the number of times you feed your plants as they will typically consume more water.
Another key part to a functional ventilation system is to use strong and flexible ducting. We tell our customer that is better to spend an extra $20.00 on ducting than have a dead grow because the cheap ducting ripped and fell apart. Torn ducting will send your grow temps out the roof and could possibly destroy all your hard word. We carry and recommend using the Thermo flo ducting. This product is tuff stuff! If you are serious about growing and saving yourself a great deal of headaches, West Coast Hydroponics strongly recommends using a quality and well thought out ventilation system.
